A yellow weather warning will take effect at noon today in the Westfjords and remain in force until 10 a.m. tomorrow.

The Icelandic Meteorological Office is forecasting northeasterly winds of 15–20 m/s, with snowfall or sleet during the period.

Poor visibility and worsening driving conditions are expected, especially on mountain roads.

Minus 17°C in the North

It has been cold in northern Iceland overnight and this morning.

The lowest temperature recorded was –17.3°C, measured both in lowland areas near Mývatn and in the highlands at Svartárkot in Bárðardalur, according to observations from the Icelandic Meteorological Office.

The frost peaked at around 3 a.m.

Conditions have been considerably milder this morning in the south and southwest of the country, where temperatures have reached up to about 7.5°C in the Reykjavík area and beneath Eyjafjöll.
