I’ve got the day off! Had some holiday to take and this was the best day. Good job as it was neighbours Christmas curry night last night (group of 6 of us have managed to maintain the tradition of a Christmas curry for over 10 years!). Feeling slightly delicate, but that is OK, as it’s a chill day.
It’s already Wednesday, i’ve made it to the office even though i’m feeling dreadful which is the first time i’ve been in nearly three weeks.
*(It’s not a cold or flu any more, i’ve developed a tickly cough and the feeling of needing to cough something up when there’s nothing).*
Only have today and tomorrow in the office, even though we work up to Christmas Eve. I was going to be in one day next week but the phrasing by a colleague who needs to courier some stuff back here was it’d be a 2026 thing. Bonus!
Nothing. I had a vasectomy yesterday and it all aches… I have licence to sit on the sofa all day but I feel guilty for not doing anything!

For the first time in about 6 years I’m not on call over Christmas.
Which is nice.
Feel like shit. Got a chest infection brewing. Went for a run, beat my (albeit slow) 5k pr whilst chatting for most of the run. I guess my fitness has improved more than I realised!
I picked up an oven tray last night, forgetting it had just come out of the oven. Pain was excruciating but it seems an hour in ice water and then bandaged up has helped, little pain this morning.
Very anxious though as we’re moving our electric meter today. It requires Northern Powergrid, the energy company, and our electrician to be here at the same time. So far Northern Powergrid are 40 minutes late and I need them to be done and dusted by 11am 🤦♂️
I had a dream last night where I had a one night stand with Lily Allen.
Driving home from the last working trip of the year, today. It’s been a lot of travel this month. I haven’t yet managed to sort anything Christmas yet, so this weekend we’ll definitely be going full Christmas mode.
Just need to get this weeks on call out the way then I can fully switch off until January. Huzzah!
Found out we have 6 fertilised eggs after IVF retrieval process 🙂 fingers crossed for the next steps
My win is I got some positive feedback at work yesterday. It’s a new job, and I’ve been low key worrying about my performance, fitting in…the usual stuff you normally worry about when you join a new job and organisation. So it’s helped me relax a little.
Still can’t wait until Friday when it’s my last working day of 2025!
Not sure is this is a win but I got the guy playing loud Disney music in my local cafe to stop.
Basically, I believe he has some condition like tourettes – talks to himself, hums while walking through the different parts of the cafe and suddenly says random sentences.
Trying to read a book in the quiet area is difficult with music blasting round the corner. With no one else doing anything (including others trying to read) I tapped him on the shoulder and he instantly knew why, turning the volume down.
Since then it hasn’t been a problem.
Can you speak French? in Spanish, in English – is can you speak French in Spanish!
Day off. Lovely crisp morning, bit of fog which was very atmospheric. Off to meet some family I’ve not seen in years who are visiting from NZ for lunch. Dog’s third gotcha day (adoption anniversary) yesterday and he [loves his pressies](https://ibb.co/hRHTrkRf) (he’s obsessed with buses). After next Tuesday I’ll have two weeks off work. Good times all round.
Got the last recommended posting for 2nd class letters before work!
Won £14 on a couple of scratch cards.
Forgot to put (long life)oat milk in the fridge and I don’t want cereal with room temperature oat milk so leftover maltesers for second breakfast it is(just home from first job)
Youngest daughter (9 months old) started crawling last week, on Monday she also decided it was boring and she started using a walker toy instead. Great to see her progressing (at last!)
Still got a week of work before the xmas break, motivation has kicked up its feet and is listening to jingles
Managed to get myself to the gym before work starts 💪
but it smells really badly of fart 🙁
I have solved my flooring job’s final piece.
I needed a row that has cuts to go under several bits of door jamb, but due to how tongue n groove works, it wasn’t working.
Will spare you the details but am finally gonna finish this project!
Spent a week visiting my mum and now flying home to spend Xmas with my wife and dogs. My son and GF fly out on Monday. Looking forward to first proper Christmas since losing our youngest son at 24. Last Xmas was horrible, he will be missed but we will laugh and remember him fondly. He loved Xmas.
I ordered a £45 Christmas present which didn’t arrive so I contacted the shop and explained that I hadn’t yet received my order.
The shop said that the item was delivered the previous day by Evri and provided a photo of the item which was in a bin.
I had nothing else to go on as it was just a photo of the inside of a bin and it wasn’t my bin so I asked my neighbours and did all that you have to do whenever Evri loses your parcel and I replied to the shop saying that nobody in my street had my item.
The shop then offered to send out a replacement but I had to decline and ask for a refund as the item wouldn’t arrive in time for Christmas, so I got my money back and the next day some guy appeared at my door with my parcel and he said “Hey, I’ve just found this sitting in my bin, it has this address on it” and he handed it over to me.
So in the end, I got a £45 item for free.
Took today off for my birthday, so I can have a relaxing one.
As it’s wood-burner time, I just asked the lady in the Co-op for a gas lighter. She said they didn’t have any, and in a moment of inspiration, I blurted out, “that’s because you’re not good enough and you never will be.”
(fortunately she found it funny).
I got called back into a office I’d just finished cleaning yesterday at work. The two guys in it got me a box of orange matchsticks and a greetings card and wanted to actually give it to me, rather than my just seeing it there the next day. I also got given a box of mini chocolate Santa’s from another of the cleaners and our head of maintenance gave me some Cadbury things on the sly yesterday too. I’ve had a card from pretty much all of my colleagues this year, which doesn’t seem to be a big deal, but at my old job I’d get 2 or 3. There’s still 2.5 shifts for me to do this week, and I have so much happy energy from the other shifts that I’m flying through the week it seems.
I haven’t shit myself yet today.
Norovirus is fun.

So glad I took the day off work. The advice of “power should only be off for 20 minutes” has stretched to 4 hours now.
Looking forward to our new extension once everything is wired up. We’ve had the meter moved from the kitchen to outside, and a new fuse box repositioned too. Cost thousands. 😩
Survived looking after our rainbows last night. Our leader couldn’t come because of work and we had a joint Christmas party with the other rainbows groups. I had one go down sick and one hurt her foot because of course I did but we survived!
Just managed to write the first half of the family Christmas quiz this year. I’m ridiculously busy at work but my mind kept wandering to ideas so it was better for me to just get the things written down and out of my head.
So far we’ll have two music rounds (with following bonus round), a film round and then questions about the family ages. As there’s 25 of us there is quite a lot that can be asked.
Nearest shop to work is lidl, managed to buy and distribute the nicest lidl Xmas cards to coworkers before they all had the same idea.
Now they’ll either need to go somewhere else to buy cards or everyone will have matching cards 🤣
Broken up with my boyfriend of many years. Very sad about it, but I’ve cleaned my entire house, had a shower and going to see my pals this evening.
been in bed for 6 days with Flu. It’s been hell. But today I’m out of bed and in another part of the house and I’m feeling like I’m turning a corner. I might actually be well enough for Xmas! HUZZAH!
Car passed its MOT!
Every single meeting in my diary for today has been cancelled. Slightly worried about the impact on my January diary but counting it as a win for now!
