China’s massive lead in clean technologies has shifted the global climate fight from one of big pledges and international diplomacy toward a technological revolution in cheaper energy, analysts say.
The accelerated adoption of clean technologies — particularly solar and wind power, as well as electric vehicles — has challenged long-held assumptions about how central fossil fuels are to modern industrial development, as well as which countries would lead the world in the climate fight. The Republicans have made sure we lose this fight. By not even trying.
The problem is not that we are shipping LNG to Europe. We have to do it, unless we want them to be at mercy of Putin.
The problem is that we are not ramping up renewables to replace this natural gas in our power generation mix.
We used to export very little. Now that we are in a screw climate change theory mode, it is gonna lead to a shortage at home driving higher cost for us and more profit for gas producers.
Could you be more specific about this fight you mentioned.
> “European benchmark natural gas prices have been declining at the same exact time and rate that U.S. prices are increasing. What this means is American families are subsidizing cheaper gas for Europeans,”
This is stupid. LNG is more expensive than Russian pipeline gas. European gas price is declining because lower demand, meanwhile gas demand is increasing in the US so higher prices there.
Edit: US natural gas used by power consumers [link](https://www.eia.gov/dnav/ng/hist/n3045us2a.htm) vs LNG exports [link](https://www.eia.gov/dnav/ng/hist/n9133us2A.htm). Post energy crisis LNG price is similar in Europe and Asia. [link](https://www.eia.gov/dnav/ng/ng_move_expc_s1_a.htm)
There are places in the US where LNG is more expensive than in Europe. Also out in the frack fields, natural gas sometimes has a negative price, so producers flare it instead of paying to move it.
