The first five A-29N Super Tucano from Portugal arrived at Air Base No. 11 in Beja on December 18. The Portuguese Air Force officially received the aircraft the day before, in a ceremony held at OGMA facilities, a subsidiary of Embraer.
The aircraft still displayed Brazilian registrations used during the ferry flight but will be removed to reveal the official military designations.
The A-29N Super Tucano, acquired for Squadron 101 – ‘Roncos’, represents the beginning of the renewal of the country’s fleet of training and close air support aircraft. The delivered models already feature NATO-compatible configuration.

The total expected fleet is 12 units, with the first five already operational. The aircraft will assume a dual role, conducting both pilot training and close air support missions in low-threat environments.
The contract with Embraer also includes a letter of intent to establish an A-29N assembly line in Portugal. The goal is to meet national demands and those of other European countries.
“The aircraft produced in this assembly line aim to meet future needs of the Portuguese State, as well as other European nations, through government-to-government negotiations, contributing to strengthening the defense industrial base in Portugal and Europe,” stated the Air Force.
The A-29N is used in various countries and stands out for its versatility in training and light combat missions.
