The National Bank of Moldova (NBM) is issuing starting December 19 the commemorative coin Moldova in Single Euro Payments Area, 2025. The decision was published in the Official Journal today.
The commemorative coin will be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity and will be available to the public both through the National Bank of Moldova and licensed banks.
The coin marks the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) – a strategic process carried out in three distinct stages: the official application for membership submitted on January 30, 2024, signed by Anca Dragu, Governor of the National Bank of Moldova; the acceptance of the Republic of Moldova into SEPA on March 6, 2025; and operational integration on October 6, 2025, which allowed the effective connection of the national payment system to the European infrastructure.
„The accession of the Republic of Moldova to SEPA is proof that our institutions can generate tangible results for citizens and companies, bringing the Republic of Moldova closer to the European financial space through modern, secure, and accessible solutions. It is the result of sustained effort, coherent vision, and the state’s ability to transform European commitments into real benefits for the economy and society. This coin becomes a symbol of trust, consistency, and the clear direction chosen by Moldovans,” said Dragu.
The coin is minted in silver, has a nominal value of 100 lei and a mintage of 2500 units. The design author is Eugeniu Boico, a professor at Moldova State University and creator of the ‘Tree of Life’, the country’s tourism brand.
Licensed banks set the selling price of the commemorative coin independently, which will not exceed by three percent the price set by the NBM.
The commemorative coin is accepted as legal tender in the national economy, at its nominal value.
