“chemical dehumidifiers are only powerful enough to dry your own tears”
Contact your landlord
This is not an issue you can tackle with such a dehumidifier. It could draw moisture from the air, but clearly the moisture is inside the wall and floor
Buy Schimmelentferner (with chlorine). Heat the room and ensure that the air is as dry as possible. Regularly ventilate the room.
(Mold is building in rather cold rooms with high humidity. Heating up and ventilating will Bring humidity down)
That little box is like a fart in the wind.
Go to a Baumarkt. You need 3 products:
Get “Schimmel-Vernichter” (Mould destroyer), Schimmel-Schutzimprägnierung and mould-resistant paint.
Read the safety instructions for the products. Espeically the first one. Use it with a mask and gloves and scrub as much as you can off the walls. Then after you have washed it off and the wall has dried, use the Schutzimprägnierung. Then after that has dried you paint over it with the mould-resistant paint. It will take a few hours between each stage.
Then, don’t put any furniture right into the corner! Leave a gap so air can flow.
Get a small hygrometer to measure the amount of moisture in the air. Maybe a small electric de-humidifier will help. But most important: LĂĽften!
Why does the wall have two different colors?
It looks wet
If your landlord won’t help you get a real dehumidifier with a compressor (like Meaco Arete One). Only way to get enough moisture out of the air. You can also turn the heaters up more and don’t forget to open the windows twice a day + after showering and after cooking.
Spray some Schimmel Entferner (Activ Chlor) from OBI or Amazon. It works great, but heads up: it’s a strong chemical. Use it carefully and make sure the area is aired out properly
If you want to deal with it yourself i suggest to buy a good dehumidifier. It is not really all that expensive and it is somewhat economical – not a lot of energy compared to a dryer machine plus it heats up the air just a little. I have one in the bathroom and it really works. Also it is important to keep the temperature higher. I recommend searching for one with a big container and searching for comments saying that it is somewhat quiet.
I use this when there is mold, don’t bother diluting it, use it as is. One of them removes the mold, the other one prevents it from coming back.
I bought a infrared heater Schimmelstop it makes the wall heat up, but the reason had to be found and stopped.
Edit:
Ibought that one Bringer Schimmelstopp, i measured 56Watt during heating, it works great, to dry the wall, after the roof was repaired, so the reason need be investigated. :
If there is humidity in just a corner, probably the problem is structural, and it can not be solved with ventilation or any kind of weird device. What is after that wall? If it is the street, probably it probably has bad isolation. If not, probably there are pipelines which has problems.
You need to stop the source of moisture
There’s water infiltrating the living space from behind the wall. I’d focus on that before the paint.
The problem is humidity and temperature. Invest in a good dehumidifier. I bought the Xiaomi dehumidifier lite and never got mold again. Mold needs cold and humidity to grow. You take the humidity out of the equation and it will not grow anymore. It will not be cheap but hey, mold is slowly making you sick
There are some infrared lights that you can buy at Amazon (a bit pricey) but it kills the mold.
If you have furniture close to that corner and you are able to move it somewhere else that could also work. Maybe the corner is not able to ventilate as efficiently. Good luck. 🤞
Yeah that whole wall is infested. Either go on chemical warfare and lose or replace the whole wall. If you’re renting: Mietminderung and tell your landlord
I’ve had a massive mould problem on the walls of my bathroom that I very easily solved. Here is what I recommend:
-buy a “Schimmelentferner”. There is a very affordable option in DM (Eigenmarke/Store Brand). Please avoid the “Chlorfrei” ones. You WANT the chlorine!
-PLEASE use protective gloves and goggles. Wear protective clothing you don’t care about (I’ve ruined my fav sweater bc I didn’t do this…)
-open all your windows
-spray it VERY generously where you have mould and all around it
DON’T spray it above your head level! It WILL get into your eyes, and you will breathe it in, and you won’t have a good time.
-watch the magic work
Do NOT SCRUB! You’ll only disperse the mould in the air! Let the chemical do its job (the mould will quickly turn white). There’s no need to scrub it afterwards, either. You’ll only damage the wall or the wallpaper.
-ventilate your whole apartment often during the next few days (don’t sit in a space where you notice a strong bleach smell. It is a health hazard)
-repeat if necessary
Alles Gute und viel Erfolg!
Are dehumidifier machines not a thing? I can’t recall seeing them in the store.
Mold remover containing chlorine or hydrogen peroxide. Should kill the mold and has a bleaching effect.
We had a lot of mold in our apartment, but thanks to this product, no more mold has appeared in the last two years.
#In your city, contact this company, Deutscher Mieterbund (DMB), and tell them Ich habe seit mehreren Jahren massive Feuchtigkeitsprobleme in meiner Wohnung.
Get legal advice! No one here can see behind your walls. If I were you, I’d even document beforehand what you’ve already done yourself and what costs you’ve incurred. Furthermore, I would regularly measure the levels of mold in the air and walls (you should be able to get a cheap measuring device from Parkside, for example) – after all, you’ll want to be able to justify further measures, even if you’re not a professional. Most importantly, go to a specialist, such as an ENT doctor or a pulmonologist, for a check-up. Explain to them why you want to have this done. In a serious situation, you can then use the medical reports to prove that you develop chronic (permanent) lung damage due to the mold infestation, in order to claim damages. Once your health is compromised, the mold on the wall will be the least of your problems!

Key points that are important for you as a tenant:
Mold = defect in the rented property (§ 536 German Civil Code)
Simply painting over it does not remedy the defect if the cause (moisture, thermal bridge, leaky wall, etc.) is not addressed.
Always report in writing
– ideally by email and additionally by registered mail with return receipt requested
– attach photos and the date
– report each recurrence
Set a deadline
10–14 days is typical, but shorter in cases of severe mold.
Important: clearly state by when the cause must be professionally remedied.
Demand remediation of the cause, not just a “cosmetic repair”
For example:
“Simply painting over it does not constitute a lasting remedy for the defect.”
“`
Announce the consequences (still factual, not aggressive)
For example:
Rent reduction
Involving an expert
Self-remedy with reimbursement of costs
Possible health risks
Im not really sure why ppl think this can/will do the job. Or any job. Ist like covering a body with a paper tissue. Expensive paper tissues.
