WOMEN’S QUARTERFINALS
The women’s quarterfinals kick off Saturday’s playoff coverage.
No. 1 seed Team Seung-youn Ha of South Korea plays Japan’s Team Momoha Tabata.
Tabata took two in the third and stole one in the fourth to lead 3-1.
Ha posted a perfect record and a great last-stone draw total to take the top spot. Tabata advanced with a 6-4 win over South Korea’s Team Bo-bae Kang in the morning tiebreakers.
Canada’s Team Kerri Einarson slotted into the No. 2 seed with an unblemished record and goes up against Japan’s Team Sayaka Yoshimura.
Yoshimura leads 5-4 with the hammer in the fifth end.
Einarson was looking to make a runback to potentially score three points in the first. She had to settle for a single, as her shooter grazed a guard along the way and didn’t connect on the raise at the right enough angle with Yoshimura’s rock for the second shot remaining untouched.
Yoshimura hit for two points in the second and stole three in the third to grab a 5-1 advantage as Einarson whiffed on the runback, taking out two of her own stones. Einarson recovered and made an angle raise bump on the staggered rocks to remove Yoshimura’s stone at the back and score three.
Yoshimura thumped Sweden’s Team Anna Hasselborg 7-1 in an Olympic preview during the tiebreakers.
Canada’s Team Rachel Homan faces Japan’s Team Satsuki Fujisawa. Homan drew for a deuce in the first and holds the hammer in the fifth end, trailing 3-2. Fujisawa took one in the second and stole back-to-back points in the third and fourth ends.
Switzerland’s Team Silvana Tirinzoni counted three in the first and two in the fourth to lead 5-2 against China’s Team Wang Rui.
The winners will advance to the semifinals at 9 p.m. ET / 8 p.m. CT.
MEN’S QUARTERFINALS
Scotland’s Team Bruce Mouat holds the top spot on the men’s side and will meet Team Joël Retornaz of Italy.
Retornaz eliminated Scotland’s Team Kyle Waddell 9-8 in a tiebreaker to qualify for the playoffs.
Canada’s Team Brad Jacobs takes on Scotland’s Team Ross Whyte.
Switzerland’s Team Yannick Schwaller plays Germany’s Team Marc Muskatewitz.
