December the 21st, 2025 – Advent Zagreb has had a fantastic effect on the city’s winter tourism picture thus far, with the accommodation offer 80% full.

As Sinisa Malus/Poslovni Dnevnik writes, this year’s festive season is already showing an exceptionally high level of tourist interest in the City of Zagreb. The first two Advent Zagreb weekends were almost fully booked, with more than 90% of the capital’s accommodation capacities booked, while the remaining two were more than 80% filled. Around 140 booths offering food, drinks, souvenirs and programmes should bring the city around half a million euros in revenue this year.

Advent Zagreb is once again attracting global attention, ranking among the most attractive Christmas markets. Multiple global media outlets have been showering praise on Advent Zagreb over recent weeks. It has already been reported on by the likes of Condé Nast Traveller, Mirror, National Geographic, Time Out, and Forbes has once again included it in its recommendations.

significant revenue

CNN has published a list of the most beautiful Christmas markets across the world, including Advent Zagreb. The Croatian metropolis is thus ranked alongside destinations like Vienna, Strasbourg, Prague and Barcelona. CNN also pointed out that Zagreb was officially named the “best Christmas destination” for three years in a row by the European Best Destinations portal.

The text states that Advent Zagreb includes around 25 Christmas locations spread across the city and offers visitors live nativity scenes, open-air concerts, a Christmas tram with Santa Claus and elves, and various “pop-up” bars. Advent Zagreb brings rich cultural and entertainment content, a traditional Christmas atmosphere, and the city’s recognisable charm, which attracts visitors from all over the world. Many visitors typically arrive in the Croatian capital on Croatia Airlines flights.

This interest was also fueled by the fact that the Zagreb Tourist Board (TZGZ) and Croatia Airlines, together with the Obzor Putovanja travel agency, launched two special programmes. In them, they presented Zagreb as a favourite destination for a short break from everyday life, whether it be cultural events, city walks, food related experiences, or just a more relaxed city atmosphere. The Discover Zagreb – Feel the vibes campaign promotes the Croatian capital as the perfect “city break” destination and invites domestic and regional travellers to discover how close, accessible and inspiring Zagreb is. As part of the campaign, a tempting package deal is available, which includes a return flight from Split, Dubrovnik, Pula, Zadar, Sarajevo, Skopje and Mostar, accommodation in 4 or 5 star hotels with breakfast included, and a city tour with an expert guide.

zagreb as a city break destination

All of this makes Zagreb even more accessible and alluring for a short but eventful stay. Thanks to the cooperation of the Zagreb Tourist Board and Croatia Airlines, travellers now have the “Stopover Zagreb” (Between two flights) programme at their disposal, which gives them the opportunity to organise their stay in Zagreb for 24 or 48 hours and experience the city in a completely different way. The programme is designed as an invitation to all those who stopover in Zagreb to stay a little longer and explore what the Croatian capital has to offer – from its rich history, museums and galleries to its abundant food and shopping scene.

For passengers flying with Croatia Airlines, another deal is available, which includes accommodation in four- or five-star hotels with breakfast, tourist tax paid and the Zagreb Card, which offers many benefits – from free public transport to free entrance and discounts on tickets to museums and attractions.

spotlighting the capital’s food scene

From December the 1st, 2025 to March the 31st, 2026, the Croatian national airline is running a special food-oriented offer, Tastes of Zagreb, intended for passengers on both international and domestic flights. The Tastes of Zagreb concept relies on recognisable elements of continental Croatian cuisine and represents a combination of tradition and modern food trends. This will allow passengers to enjoy an authentic insight into the culinary heritage of Croatia’s bustling capital and its surrounding areas.

“I’d like to thank our long-time partner, the Zagreb Tourist Board, for their partnership in implementing these two new programmes. With them, we want to position Zagreb even more strongly as a favourite tourist destination. I believe that many of our passengers from Croatia and from across the region will recognise the values and benefits of both programmes and take advantage of the many amenities that are now available. In doing so, they’ll get to experience Croatia’s capital city in an even more interesting and accessible way,” said Slaven Žabo, Director of Commercial Affairs at Croatia Airlines.
