Last week, President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko held talks with the United States Special Envoy for Belarus John Coale, and in his talk with SB TV, Deputy Chairman of the Standing Commission on National Security of the House of Representatives of Belarus’ National Assembly, Reserve Major General Ruslan Kosygin commented on the developing Belarusian-American relations

As noted by Mr. Kosygin, US President Donald Trump sees and understands that further steps to escalate the situation and confrontation could lead to a catastrophe – World War III. Speaking about the recent negotiations between Belarus and the United States, he stressed, “Warming ties with the American side is definitely a good signal. Importantly, it’s a good hope that we will not descend into the abyss of a large-scale international conflict, in which, as the President said, there will be no winner because it’ll be a nuclear war.”

The MP continued, “We perfectly see and understand that the steps, including those taken by the current US administration, once again contradict the words of our opponents that Belarus is isolated and that it is an outcast in the international arena.”

At the same time, Mr. Kosygin stressed that Trump, after coming to power, crossed out many of the decisions made by Joe Biden. As noted by the MP, a similar change in political strategies may occur when a new administration comes to power, “There is a certain component here that makes us think about. True, peaceful endeavours are a good move, but it is also necessary to clearly understand that we need to have many of our own things that would ensure sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity. This embraces all aspects: the economy, politics, and the power component. We should have everything of our own as much as possible in order to eliminate external influences.”
