SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – A crowd of community members, advocates and faith leaders gathered Saturday evening calling for Immigration reform.
A candlelight vigil took place at Five Points Park in downtown Sarasota for A Night of Remembrance: Vigil for Separated Families & Immigration Reform, a candlelight vigil honoring families separated by immigration policies and enforcement.
Organized by the Democratic Women’s Club of Sarasota County and El Pueblo Unido–Tampa Bay, in coordination with the Immigration Justice Coalition of Southwest Florida, Sarasota United for Responsibility and Equity (SURE), and Church of the Trinity MCC.
Organizers say the vigil calls to recommit to immigration reform rooted in justice, dignity, and humanity. They also want to remember those who have been separated, but also to imagine and demand a future where all families are treated with dignity, safety, and respect.
