A £2.60 item being sold in several supermarkets throughout the UK has been recalled over potential health concerns. Young’s Seafood is pulling its Gastro 2 Lemon & Pepper Fish Fillets from shelves after discovering the product contains mustard, which isn’t declared on the packaging.
This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to mustard, and in line with this, an urgent “do not eat” warning has been issued.
According to the Food Standards Agency, the item can be found across numerous leading UK retailers, such as Tesco, Sainsbury’s, and Iceland.
The company said: “If you have bought the above product, do not eat it. Instead, return the product to the store where it was purchased for a full refund”.
In a statement, the Food Standards Agency explained: “This product contains mustard making it a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to mustard.”
It adds: “Young’s Seafood is recalling the above product from customers and has been advised to contact the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall.
“The company has also issued a recall notice to its customers. Sometimes there will be a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold.
“Then it might be ‘withdrawn’ (taken off the shelves) or ‘recalled’ (when customers are asked to return the product).
“Sometimes foods have to be withdrawn or recalled if there is a risk to consumers because the allergy labelling is missing or incorrect or if there is any other food allergy risk. When there is a food allergy risk, the FSA will issue an Allergy Alert.
It isn’t the only seafood item to be recalled this week. Kennan Seafood has recalled various prepacked fish products because of multiple undeclared allergens.
The agency said: “Keenan Seafood is recalling multiple prepacked fish products because some packs contain barley (gluten), crustaceans, egg, fish, milk, mustard, soya and wheat (gluten) which are not mentioned on the label.
“This means the products are a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to crustaceans, fish, soya, mustard, an allergy or intolerance to egg, milk or milk constituents, cereals containing gluten, or with coeliac disease.”
