  1. Nuclear power is not as good as renewables like solar or wind, but it isn’t coal or gas. I would take it over those two anyday.

  2. Nuclear power is safe, and im tired of people saying otherwise

  3. I was not expecting logical decisions from a conservative government. Good for them

  4. Damn. It has been 15 years since Fukushima? Now I feel old…

  5. I think nuclear is great unless you live near a reactor on an island that gets hit by tsunamis and earthquakes.

  6. Japan has little choice. Given its heavy dependence on imported energy, nuclear power can help reduce the pressure of rising energy costs.

  7. Can’t really blame them for that. Japan doesn’t have that many resources to use as energy, so it seems like nuclear energy is the way.

Although I would like for Japan to build a bigger seawall this time, pretty sure the last one was too short.

  8. Right after the two massive earthquake hit this year. What could go wrong

  9. Wow, I remember this, I didn’t realize it had been 15 years!

  10. Good. Opening nuclear plants is gonna give Japan more energy security in case shit pops off

  11. Access to seawater is great for for cooling. Access to major tsunamis… Not as great.

  12. Perhaps someone in the nuclear field can chime in. But with the Japanese nuclear industry basically arrested for the last 15 years, it seems they are at a crossroad. Where they either restart the plants or risk the industry never truly coming back. I’m sure nuclear trained personnel are aging with retirement looming. Add in the stigma due to Fukushima and a declining birth rate, the pool of nuclear trained personnel has to have shrunk.

  13. This was probably their main objective after that nuclear weapons propaganda. As I understand, their citizens are quite sensitive to anything nuclear.

  14. I hope they learned a thing or 2 about putting back up batteries.. not in the basement..
