Gov. Jeff Landry thanked President Trump for appointing him a special envoy to Greenland, but also said the new role wouldn’t interfere with his main job as governor of Louisiana.

“It’s an honor to serve you in this volunteer position to make Greenland a part of the U.S,” Landry said in a post on X addressed to Trump. “This in no way affects my position as Governor of Louisiana!”

Trump announced Landry’s appointment in an 8:21 p.m. post on Truth Social.

“I am pleased to announce that I am appointing the GREAT Governor of Louisiana, Jeff Landry, as the United States Special Envoy to Greenland,” Trump wrote. “Jeff understands how essential Greenland is to our National Security, and will strongly advance our Country’s Interests for the Safety, Security, and Survival of our Allies, and indeed, the World. Congratulations Jeff!”

Landry and Trump are strong allies. The governor has made frequent appearances at the White House with Trump, and Trump endorsed Landry.
