US arms package to Taiwan seen as a ‘move to use Taiwan to contain China’ • FRANCE 24 English

The United States have announced a $11 billion arms package for Taiwan, the largest ever by the country to the island. China has threatened ‘forceful measures’ over the sale to safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity. It is seen as a move to ‘use Taiwan to contain China’ Rex Li, professor of International Relations at King’s College London, says.

  1. China needs to think about their publicly stated policy. They said they want to integrate Taiwan into China peaceably. Okay America will give Taiwan a gun to make certain that is what happens. Do it peaceably no problem. But you can FAFO!

  2. Listen! Qualcomm, Apple, AMD, Nvidia, Intel, Amazon, Google, Microsoft get semiconductors manufactured in Taiwan. America is not letting Winne the Poo and his rice burners take that. That is a "hold my beer" moment for America. So China better open their eyes all the way and take a look. because we may laugh and joke but we ain't playing.

  5. US sells second-grade weapons to Taiwan, not the most advanced arms. Even if it sells the most advanced arms to Taiwan, it will fail to contain China as China has even more advanced weapons such as unstoppable hypersonic missiles which can destroy American vessels including aircraft carriers before they can even approach Chinese waters.

  6. The latest Pentagon assessment says US will suffer a catastrophic defeat in a war with China over Taiwan. So arms sales to Taiwan don't matter.

    Trump hope visit to China next year is dashed. He can't expect to take advantage of China both economicaly and geopolitically.

  23. Eu and US has most likely or will spend 1 trillion for the proxy Ukraine war. So what is 11 billion arms package. And China has had rebel provinces in its 4,000 years history. So If not this year, next year, 10 years, 100 years and so on. Silly games

  24. How is the containment working? I mean china can do what it pleases, controls the wotld manufacturing and producing so much wealth?
