Turkish media react strongly to Greece-Cyprus-Israel trilateral meeting

Monday’s tripartite meeting between the leaders of Greece, Cyprus and Israel in Jerusalem has drawn strong reactions in Turkey, with sections of the Turkish media portraying the talks as an “alliance of evil” and an “alliance against Turkey.”

Turkish outlets have broadly framed the meeting as a move to strengthen coordination among Athens, Nicosia and Jerusalem in response to Ankara’s regional influence.

Pro-government newspapers such as Hurriyet and Millet reported that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, whom they described as concerned about Turkey’s growing role in the eastern Mediterranean, met in Jerusalem with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides.

Greece and Cyprus, the reports noted, are seeking to deepen military cooperation with Israel and to secure involvement in a planned international force in Gaza.

At Monday’s tripartite, Mitsotakis, Christodoulides and Netanyahu agreed to deepen security cooperation.

Ankara is also closely monitoring developments in Syria, particularly cooperation between the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces and Israel. With nine days remaining before a deadline for the integration of Kurdish forces into the Syrian national army, Turkish media have described the situation as unstable and potentially dangerous.
