  1. 8,000 went to the bother of reporting an incident, then making a statement , in person, with 8,000 gardai, just for fuck-all to be done about it. And we wonder why they have no enthusiasm for this, we’re doing their jobs for them and even then, it produces nothing.

  2. The figures show the system is not working…..
It is very disheartening to go to the bother of reporting dangerous driving, going to a station and making a statement, providing video evidence and then nada.
This has been my repeated experience.
Coupled with the facts of Gardai making up breathalyser test figures and Traffic police refusing to do their job and nobody being held to account over it is it any surprise we have such bad driving on Irish roads?
We all see the endless breaking of red lights and epidemic mobile phone usage.
Of course coupled with a not fit for purpose RSA, that an independent report recommended be broken up, which is instantly dismissed by Gov.
The same RSA that still to this day will not handover RTC stats to local authorities because of bogus GDPR interpretation.

  3. Because Gardai are useless, they’re all about making money for daddy revenue. Taking dangerous drivers off the roads takes time and effort, Gardai ain’t about that life. The tip line was only a PR stunt. They have enough speed vans in their fleet.

  4. I drive for a living. I’ve been driving for a living for 30 years. In all that time I’ve only ever had to report someone for dangerous driving once. Went to police station to report a formal complaint. Turned out the driver was a priest. Catholic priest and the most obnoxious person I have ever come across. He was in normal clothes at the time. He begged that the complaint would be dismissed and resolved without going to court. I said absolutely no. But the guards squashed it without my permission. I was raging.

  5. 8000 complaints but how many were genuine dangerous driving, how many were honest mistakes that don’t warrant charges without some kind of a breakdown it’s useless.

  6. I was driving behind a gravel truck dumping gravel onto the road as he drove. He had no cover on the truck. Called the helpline and received a call back from Limerick AGS who wanted me to go in and make a statement yet couldn’t be bothered having a car meet him on the road as he headed towards Limerick. They all agreed it was dangerous.
I kept driving back to Dublin. What was the point.

  7. Its possible that a hell of a lot of these complaints have no photographic or video evidence, so nothing can be done on word alone.

  8. I reported something to the line. Very nice guard rang me back a WEEK later. He told me that they send the complaints via post to the garda station, not even email. He had been on holidays to top it all off.

He told me to ring the station directly in future if I saw something dangerous.

  9. I did ring a Garda station before regarding dangerous driving relating to someone overtaking on a bend heading straight towards me and they really couldn’t care less. It angered me nearly more than the incident itself.

Now I wouldn’t report anything, life is too short to be getting annoyed.

  10. I went to report a maniac on the M50 who overtook us across four lanes and shook the car – I had video from four different angles but they couldn’t receive it by email or upload – had to be memory stick or I’d have to hand over the hard drive. And even if I did that, they said without clear footage of who was at the wheel, they couldn’t assume it was the registered owner

  11. Before you can call the system not fit for purpose we need more accurate breakdown of what happens to the complaint.

    How many are followed up?

How many follow ups actually get in contact with the original complainer?

How many have of the complainers are able to prove actionable evidence?

    That sort of stuff.

  12. Yes? It’s a tip line, not calling in an air strike. 1.8% isn’t a bad hit rate.
