Haven't seen anyone discuss this yet.
I find it interesting that things seem to be slowly swaying in this direction, with the Green party announcing similar support last year.
Maybe people saying it'll be legal by early 2030's aren't wrong. It'd be interesting, that's for sure.

Please let Finland do this before Sweden. Its so tiring that politicians refuse to do anything unless its been already “”tested”” in the rest of the Nordics.
And I’d rather have people zonked out and snacking at the park, instead of drunks yelling at people.
Becoming a EU powerhouse of legal cannabis manufacturing could greatly help the finnish economy IMO. alot more countries are gonna follow in the coming years if finland as always gonna be last there is no change for a competive industry to develop.
I don’t use cannabis myself, I feel very sick if I do. But I absolutely hope recreational use becomes legal. Set it up so there is government supervision, some tax revenue and all that. It’s such a harmless substance compared to alcohol and tobacco.
The economy needs a major boost. There is a lot of tourism money to tap into here too. And jobs to be created. Hope they would not limit it to government stores tho. Thats just a wrench in the possibilities of services that could be provided.
I do not support this because already people smoking normal cigarettes are such nose and eye sore and I dont want any more people to poison the air.
Weed smells so damn disgusting.
Edit: Aparrently I need to clraify that I have nothing agaisnt weed itself. My problem is that you cannot smoke weed without poisoning air in whole nearby area.
If we wanted to be smart and make major moves agains our current unemployment issue we would fast track legalization and create an entire industry of jobs over night – growers, distributors, compliance and oversight, a tonne of additional products and heaps of tax revenue. But we wonât
the large parties are all against it. so dream on. idiotism is a core philosophy in this political climate.
Yayyy we gonna have a braindead society soon!
Hate to like their proposal but this is the best this far
âArto Satonen, a fellow National Coalition MP, also opposed the move. He described it as alarming and warned of cannabis being a pathway to harder drugs.â
Funny thing is that this âgateway drugâ thing only works if cannabis is illegal and when its treated as some evil drug you buy from drug dealers selling all sorts of things, while âeducationâ in schools telling âdrugs are bad mmkayâ, putting cannabis and heroin in same box. So natirally when kids realise that the adults straight up lied about cannabis, it makes them wonder if they also lied about amphetamines, opiates, a-pvp etc. and are more likely to try them. Instead treating it as normal thing like alcohol, but milder than alcohol.
This is the most stupid iniative considering well known risks seen elsewhere where pot use is legal. Young people already seem to have increased mental health issues and products that can promote or trigger more severe mental health issues and psychosis is exactly what we need. And other side effects like cognitive decline and disorders.
Our public health care is already on edge and we don’t really need pot heads to make it worse. Yes, there are experiences that use of pot increase emergency visits and admissions related to pot use.
I hope they don’t. Have they not been to all the other cities that thought this was a great idea. The stench alone is enough to make me gag just remembering, nevermind the effectively unusable public transport, unless of course you want to feel like you’re in a hot box without the smoke
As long as smoking cannabis remains banned, Iâm completely fine with allowing other forms of consumption.
They always say this until they’re in power, afterwards they have no intentions to legalize
Canât legalise because itâs illegal. Also, wouldnât work in Finland. Why you ask? It just wouldnât. /s
The most common argument against it is that “A lot more people would start using it”, but okay, so what? It’s better that 1.4 million people in finland would smoke regulated, thc-precentage tested, pesticide, heavy metal and mold free weed, rather than the current system where 700 000 people smoke some random closet grown garbage that could be contamimated with almost everything. The current system is a liability on the public health sector and legalizing wouldn’t overwhelm it. In fact, heavy metal exposure has been linked with many mental health disorders, so a legal clean supply might actually help in the long run, though I don’t think our politicians are gonna get it. Especially when they don’t even know which part of the plant needs to be smoked to get high…
(Heavy metal exposure (like lead, mercury, cadmium, arsenic) is linked to various mental health issues, including depression, anxiety, mood disorders, and cognitive decline, by causing neuroinflammation, oxidative stress, and neurotransmitter imbalance, particularly affecting developing brains and impacting mood regulation and stress response systems. Exposure routes include contaminated food (mercury), old paint (lead), and industrial pollution, with risks heightened during pregnancy or in high-exposure jobs, though reducing exposure and seeking treatment for toxicity are crucial for better outcomes.)
as long as we have people like PÀivi RÀsÀnen it wont happen..
Finally something good is happening
Portland Maine USA has entered the chat. I had a chocolate and cannabis kitchen that I folded into a larger company at the beginning of COVID.
Cannabis is Maines second biggest industry, trailing only lobster, and bringing in nearly a half billion in sales in 2024.
Competition is fierce. Companies are getting by but no one is getting rich.
Now there are puritans trying to gut the program in the next election. And we absolutely don’t want cannabis to be in the hands of the pharmaceutical industry.
My weed is cheap, strong, and delicious.
Good luck!!
Also ask me anything.
Alko is owned by the Finnish government, so I guess there are a lot of interests in keeping that horrible drug selling everywhere and avoiding anything that could change the status quo. On top of that, religion isnât exactly very friendly toward weed đđ
