TOKYO: In a meeting with Algeria’s Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Lounès Magramane on Thursday, Japan’s visiting Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs ONISHI Yohei requested improvements in the business environment for Japanese companies, enhanced safety measures, and the establishment of transparent administrative procedures. 

Onishi said he hoped Japan and Algeria could elevate the relationship between the two countries to a new stage, Japan’s Foreign Ministry reported.

Secretary General Magramane welcomed the high-level visits and exchanges between the countries and expressed his desire to further strengthen relations in various fields, including diplomacy and the economy.

Onishi also met with Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf and stressed the necessity of strengthening cooperation with countries sharing fundamental values amidst challenges to a free, open, and stable international order. 

Onishi stated that Algeria is an important partner for Japan and his visit was a demonstration of Japan’s commitment to strengthening its ties with the Maghreb region. Additionally, he requested support in facilitating the smooth operations of Japanese companies considering the first Japan-Algeria Intergovernmental Joint Economic Committee.

Foreign Minister Attaf said Algeria shares fundamental values with Japan and maintains a good bilateral relationship. He expressed his willingness for Japan to further enhance its presence in the economic sector.

Onishi also met with Algeria’s Minister of Knowledge Economy, Start-ups, and Micro-Enterprises Noureddine Ouadah. The two officials talked of strengthening economic ties between the two countries, particularly in the startup sector, following the recent visit of a startup delegation to Japan in November.
