  1. “The UK exported a record-breaking €22 billion worth of weapons in 2025, and “there is more to come”, the defence ministry said on Friday.

Two major arms deals accounted for most of this year’s export surge.
In August, Norway signed its largest procurement contract to date, buying at least five British-designed Type 26 frigates, built by UK-based BAE Systems for €11.4 billion.
The agreement was part of a closer cooperation between the two countries to secure the North Atlantic and Arctic against increased Russian activity.

A second major deal was the sale of 20 Eurofighter Typhoon jets to Turkey, a multinational programme in which the UK is a core partner along with Germany, Italy, and Spain.
Ankara signed the €9.1 billion deal after Germany lifted its opposition due to a range of concerns, largely linked to the Turkish government’s record on human rights and democracy. The four countries must all agree to such sales.”

  2. This is good. The Americans have been moaning at us all to be more independent and have the ability for Europe to fend for itself

  3. This is good.

We need exports. There’s no shortage of other people that sell weapons should we stop because of mistaken hand-wringers.

  4. This seems to me an unfortunate necessity and therefore a conditional good. Ideally we could live in a conflict free world with no need for arms, but disarming won’t achieve that.

Better we produce the arms necessary to defend what is left of democracy around the world than to become more beholden to an increasingly anti democratic USA or unable to stand up to the autocrats in China and Russia.

  5. Good, a strong defence industry is in all our interests.
