I forgot what was Ironing

  1. I iron my smart shirts for work, ironing t-shirts/casual clothes is LinkedIn behaviour though

  2. I think a lot of people dont feel the need for perfectly pressed clothes. I think the standard for appearance is a bit lower and leaning toward smart-casual. Less expectation or tolerance of ‘live to work’.

  3. I’ve got a blouse and a denim shirt that get an iron, my husband does it though because he has more practice with his work shirts.

I’m dreading my kids going to secondary school and wearing shirts for their school uniform every day- that’ll be 10 shirts a week to iron. I’m not here for it.

  4. To a limited exent; I have shirts and trousers, so yes. I don’t understand how anyone with formal or semi formal clothing can get away with not ironing. Unironed shirts and linen clothing look shit

  5. Just finish ironing, currently doing doom scrolling.

  6. Ironing is for 3 occassions:
    Weddings,
    Job interviews,
    Funerals.

  7. I haven’t ironed any clothing since my mum used to make me iron my school shirts. The day I got married I just bought a new shirt.

  8. I iron my work shirts and trousers. Though these days I generally work from home and wear t-shirts.

  9. I don’t even own an iron, if I need to iron someone I use my straightener, doesn’t work that well but I don’t see the point in buying something I only rarely use.
There’s plenty of things that still need to be ironed though, you need to iron suits and sometimes items of clothing just end up really wrinkled and you need to iron them out.

  10. Clothes do look and feel better after ironing

Not necessary as it used to be in the past, though

  11. There’s only three times in your life you need to iron:

    Job interview

    Wedding

    Funeral

Ironing board manufacturers are on suicide watch. No one irons anymore, it’s a waste of time.

  12. Lockdown and the growth of working from home just diminished the value our culture puts on not having creases in clothes.

Don’t think it’s all that complicated really.

  13. I mostly iron work stuff but I also iron some casual t shirt sometimes because I like heavy cotton t shirts that are plain colored and show creases really obviously and I don’t like it like that.

  14. My iron is almost exclusively used for crafts at this point.

  15. No one’s telling you, but your clothes look like shit.

  16. I’m in my 40s and recently purchased my first iron…. For Hama beads.😁

  17. Someone has to literally die for me to dust off the iron.

  18. My brother in law use to live with us. He was gone for almost 9 months before we realised he’d taken the iron with him.

It is his iron might I add.

  19. Pre covid I would wear shirts in to work them things needed ironing post covid I wear football shirts all day now… those thing dry in 20 minutes and come out crease free.. post covid jeans and hoodie now seem to be acceptable office wear woop woop!

  20. I’ve lived in my place for over 10 years now and I’ve never used an iron, nor do I own one. Clothes and washed and hung up to dry, if they can’t be done by dryer. If the dryer is used they then get hung up afterwards in my wardrobe and they’re just fine.

I think Big Iron have brainwashed us all with imagery in films and tv shows the last 75 years!

    Down with Big Iron!

  21. I only iron dress shirts.

I wear lulu trousers so they don’t crease as is.

    Tshirts are ok folded

  22. I iron my shirt and trousers when attending formal events eg. Weddings. But otherwise at work I wear black jeans and a variety of colourful shirts so creases aren’t too obvious.

  23. I remember being at drinks after work and mentioning that ironing is annoying and everyone was like wtf do you iron for? then I looked at everyone’s shirts and they were all creased to absolute fuck and I hadn’t even noticed

  24. Grew up as a kid (late 80s early 90s) with my mum using one all the time now I’m nearly 40 haven’t seen one for decades don’t even iron my suit that comes out for rare special occasions/job interviews seem a waste of time it’ll crease anyway once I do anything and we really don’t notice it now as most wear what they fell comfortable in which isn’t a suit and tie

  25. Reminder to any readers – redditors are probably not a particularly good quality guide as to clothing best practice.

Iron your clothes. You look markedly better, and they will fit and feel better.

  26. Only things I’ve ironed in the last decade are the shirt I wore to my wedding and the curtains I bought this week lol. My mum was so obsessive with ironing and I had to do it from quite a young age I think I just fundamentally refuse to do it as an adult xD plus nothing really gets crushed anymore and steamers are far superior if you do need to sort a crease.

  27. Can just have a vertical steamer for the odd occasion you want an crease free cotton shirt.

  28. I actually like ironing. I find the sensation of taking something that’s in a jumble and being able to make it smooth and neat with a little effort incredibly soothing in these times. I can’t end the war in Ukraine. I can’t save kids in Gaza. I can’t tame Trump. I can’t make prices go down. But by god I can make this shirt look right!
