Coast guard rescues 70 migrants off Crete, bringing Friday’s total to 460

Late on Friday afternoon, the Greek Coast Guard rescued 70 migrants off the coast of Crete, bringing the total number of people saved south of the island that day to 460.

The migrants were found aboard two inflatable boats in the sea south of Kaloi Limenes in the Phaistos municipality.

The first incident involved 40 people, and the second involved 30 migrants, reportedly including women and children, according to the coast guard.

Local authorities called in emergency medical services to Kaloi Limenes port due to reports of individuals needing medical care. 

Earlier on Friday, the Coast Guard rescued 360 migrants from a fishing boat and around 30 others from a dinghy off the coast of Gavdos.
