TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – PT Pertamina Internasional EP (PIEP), a subsidiary of Pertamina Hulu Energi’s upstream subholding, has shipped 1 million barrels of crude oil from Algeria to Indonesia, marking the first such delivery under its operations in the country.

The shipment departed from the Port of Arzew in Oran, Algeria, on December 24, 2025.

PIEP President Director Syamsu Yudha said the shipment was part of efforts to support Indonesia’s energy supply through overseas operations.

“We are fulfilling our mandate to strengthen Indonesia’s energy resilience through efficient and sustainable operations in Algeria,” he said in a written statement on Saturday, December 27, 2025.

The crude oil lifting was carried out through cooperation between Pertamina and Algeria’s state-owned oil company, Sonatrach, a partnership that has been in place for more than 25 years.

The collaboration began with annual contracts in 2002–2003, followed by spot transactions between 2006 and 2013, and entered an expansion phase in 2014 with the management of the Menzel Lejmat (MLN) field.

According to Syamsu, the shipment was the first production following the extension of the Production Sharing Contract (PSC) for Block 405A. The extension allows operations at the block to continue for the next 25 years and is intended to contribute to Indonesia’s domestic energy supply.

Prior to the lifting, Pertamina and Sonatrach signed a Lifting Service Contract on December 22, 2025, at Sonatrach’s headquarters. The agreement was signed by Jon Erwin, President Director of Pertamina Algeria EP (PAEP), and Mayouf Belgacem, Sonatrach’s Vice President for Commercialization.

PIEP President Commissioner Dharmawan H. Samsu said the shipment followed a lengthy negotiation process. “The first shipment of 1 million barrels to Indonesia reflects the importance of the Block 405A contract extension, which was reached after an intensive negotiation process,” he said.
