  1. “New official analysis suggests that Nigel Farage’s policy on child benefit would plunge at least 450,000 children back into poverty if Reform UK were to win power.

Mr Farage seized headlines when he announced that he would scrap the two child benefit cap, months before Labour decided to do it in last month’s Budget.

But the Reform UK leader later clarified that this was only for “working British people, meaning a couple who both work 37.5 hours a week”.

New Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) analysis shows that of the 470,000 households affected by the two-child limit (in receipt of Universal Credit with three or more children, of whom the third was born after 6 April 2017), just 3,700 – less than 0.8 per cent of the total – have two adults working full-time.”

  2. Crazy that children of foreigners that don’t work and have lots of children might grow up poor. What would even be the point of coming here if you have no intention of working if that was the case?

  3. Good. Taxpayers shouldn’t be funding peoples poor life choices.

  4. This is just parroting the reverse of Labour’s claim which was just a sop to the left of the party. If you want to have 5 kids work two jobs.

  5. Benefits only for working people. So his big idea is to subsidise big business even more? corpo whore.

  6. If the headline is supposed to discourage readers from voting Reform…um you got it wrong ,people are sick of non British nationals and their kids draining our welfare system dry ,Reform will get elected and stop this madness

  7. Why should other people pay for YOUR kids ? You breed them , you feed them

  8. For more than I despise this cockroach of a man, people need to understand having a child is a luxury not everyone can’t afford. Do not have kids if you are not financially stable, in the same way don’t get a mortgage you can’t pay.

  9. If both parents are working 37h per week, would they even need child benefit? Doesn’t help the ones that need it most.

  10. GDP per capita will drop over the next decade. We will have a financial crisis. There will be a giant shock as the UK runs up against reality.

  11. Plunge 450,000 into poverty, or incentivise people to actually work to provide for their family?

  12. He’s just reversing it let’s not start this shite again. Make work pay and reward the productive.

Provide free nursery care if anything.

  13. What a load of rubbish, b he’s just putting it back to what it was a few weeks ago. FFS, could our news be any more sensationalist

  14. Right that just seems reasonable though? If you are a normal working person you get financial help with kids, if you’re not and you just use them for extra benefits then you don’t get it…

  15. I’ll agree with any measure which makes the jobless and the idle think harder about having that third kid.

  16. Time he was strapped into a parachute and dropped over the Estonian border with a westerly blowing. Then he can serve his country with his rifle and tin hat.

  17. Lots of neolibs in the comments here, fully swallowing the Murdoch propaganda

  18. Why have kids if you don’t have the financial stability/time to care for them properly? This is the main issue that we need to be addressing as a society. As a ‘latchkey kid’ who was raised by a single mother who worked ALL the time and was super tired/miserable as a result, I spent my entire childhood in front of the tv eating cheap ready meals out of the microwave, wore shitty clothes, was expected to look after my endless number of siblings and had an emotionally distant, exhausted and manically depressed primary caregiver.

We live in a country with free birth control and access to abortions. It was like my mum chose to live her life on ultra hard mode and then forced us to as well because she liked being pregnant and cuddling babies. It really sucked and I wish she had thought about the impact on us before having so many kids. I don’t think increasing child benefits is going to fix this in any way, if anything it’s going to encourage people to have more kids they don’t have the time or energy to raise properly. People need to make responsible decisions when planning families. Not everyone is owed children, and you shouldn’t have them if you can’t afford them, period.

  19. Lol this sub complains about the immigrants we need due to our low birth rates then cry about raising the child benefit cap to help increase our population ya fucking wingnuts 🤣

  20. That should be the way for most benefits, you get them as tax credits, so you only get the money if you pay income tax or CGT.

  21. The children will continue to starve until productivity improves

  22. Farage is concerned about one thing only:

    His own wealth

He will agree to anything with anybody if it means more money for him. He would execute the king and wipe his arse with the Union Jack if it meant an extra tenner a month for himself.

  23. How does Nigel think economies grow? You need higher than an average of 2 children for every 2 adults in the UK to maintain growth. If you can’t manage that birth rate, you then need to rely on immigration.

We all know what the Reform stance is on immigration, so how is a Reform government meant to sustain the country?
