A traffic collision in Slidell led to the arrest of a Honduran woman after she struck an Immigration and Customs Enforcement vehicle during a wider enforcement drive, with authorities confirming she was an undocumented migrant taken into custody.

A traffic incident in Louisiana unexpectedly brought an undocumented migrant into the custody of federal authorities after a collision involving an Immigration and Customs Enforcement vehicle operating in the area. The crash occurred in Slidell during a wider enforcement drive, with officials later confirming that the woman involved was an illegal immigrant.

According to ICE, the female Honduran national allegedly ran a red light and struck an agency vehicle that was in the area as part of Operation Catahoula Crunch. The Department of Homeland Security said ICE agents had been deployed to New Orleans under the operation to round up “criminal illegal aliens”.

“This blooper is one for the books!” US Border Patrol official Gregory K. Bovino said in a
Facebook post.
No injuries were reported from the crash, Bovino said, and the woman was taken into custody.
“Unlucky for her. Lucky for us,” Bovino said.
“Apparently, she never learned the lesson that red means stop, not ‘accelerate and collide with a government vehicle actively enforcing federal law,’” Bovino posted.

Wider immigration crackdown

The DHS claims that they’ve arrested as many as 370 people as part of the operation, according to local outlet WVUE. ICE officials did not respond to The New York Post’s request for information regarding the Honduran national’s identity or where she was being held.

The Trump administration has deployed ICE to cities across the country as part of its crackdown on illegal immigration. The agency is expected to deport at least 600,000 illegal immigrants by the end of 2025 and more than 2 million illegals have left the country since Trump took office in January, according to data released in October. Trump has made closing the nation’s southern border a priority in his second term, and border encounters are down 37% from the Biden administration, according to the DHS.
