On Monday, December 29, Norway announced the allocation of 40 million Norwegian kroner to restore the fertile soil layer in Ukraine and support local farmers. “Russia has many ways to try to bring the Ukrainian people to their knees. One of them is to destroy the country’s ability to produce food for its own population and for export. Norway supports the UN efforts aimed at enabling Ukrainian farmers to continue working”

Funding Priorities
The funds will be allocated across three main directions. The first is mapping and securing agricultural lands: FAO will identify territories contaminated by mines and explosive remnants, followed by clearance and restoration.
The second direction focuses on supporting vulnerable households: providing quality seeds, as well as creating greenhouse conditions with water storage tanks and irrigation systems.
Under the third direction, families will receive chicks, financial assistance, and vouchers for feed and veterinary services. FAO will also provide relocation assistance and protection of livestock during evacuations.
Overall, since the start of the full-scale invasion, Norway has supported UN agricultural projects in Ukraine with a total of 150 million Norwegian kroner, of which 42.7 million is directed toward mapping lands contaminated by mines.
