Me walking down my street today seeing all the people who hadn’t accounted for the bank holiday and had their bins out a day early.

    Lots of houses hadn’t put there’s out, I checked the website last night and knew they were coming.

    Our pink recycling bin was emptied today
    And the normal collection for black (general waste) and blue (paper/card) has been pushed to the weekend instead of its normal day

    These new bins are fun, we’ve only had them a few months. People have absolutely no idea what day to put their stuff out because they are used to waiting for a couple of us to shove bags out at 5/6am on the day 😄

    It used to be like you didn’t need to go to the beach to do a litter pick, just go outside your front door on a windy day and you could fill a bag in 5 mins before stepping outside your gate from stuff blown in

  6. Mine was emptied today on the normal day too. Christmas doesn’t normally affect the collections very much here, last week was Saturday instead of Monday. Usually empty them on bank holidays too, pretty much the only thing the council does decently here!!

  14. Well mine was collected today (albeit it was meant to be Saturday, since the council moved the Thu/Fri collections for the Christmas period)

    To make it worse I have at least TEN FULL BAGS and there’s still 5 days to go!

  22. We missed the recycling. I dont care as we have about 40 recycling bags.

  23. Ours were moved by two days (so we were on Monday, now on Wednesday until next Christmas, then we’ll move forward two days again, etc.)

    It was quite interesting how many bins were out this morning.

    The moving of the collection days seems to work quite well. It used to be a nightmare, the bin men only had Christmas Day off previously and were working the weekends to catch up (yes, they were paid). It used to take weeks before things settled back to normal.

  26. I love that this post was supposed to be really superior about knowing when your bins are supposed to go out, and it ends up being all of us saying “When the fuck do my bins go out?” 🤣

  27. Our binmen are fairly decent, if they’re not out for whatever reason, they’ll just come and grab them, it’s an extra 10 steps walk down the driveway. They will then leave them by the road in a kind of joking protest though. (We have a large pavement in front of ours). It’s only happened 3 times in 2 years.

  29. Our local neighbourhood group chat has been in meltdown since last night, as our “normal” day was today. In addition, our local council has introduced a 3 bin system. So not only have some neighbours put bins out on the wrong day, they’ve put the wrong bins out as well!

  30. I usually put mine out tonight but noticed I hadn’t received a notification from the app. Turns out it’s tomorrow night this week. Thank goodness for technology.

  31. I meant Christmas day and boxing day when I said “bank holiday” I am fully aware today is not a bank holiday.

  32. Binman here. I worked today. Thursday I’m not working this week, but I am working Saturday. Next week I’m doing Friday’s round on Monday and again on Saturday. Clear as mud.
