A high-risk sex offender living in Oshawa has been arrested after allegedly committing indecent acts on public transit, police say.

Police in Durham Region say on Dec. 16 a complainant advised them that a male passenger was seen masturbating on a Durham Region Transit (DRT) bus.

“The bus driver was notified, and the individual was removed from the bus near Gibb Street in Oshawa,” Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) said in a news release.

On Dec. 27, police say they received a second report involving the same male, who was once again observed committing the same offence on another DRT bus.

“Officers attended the scene, located the individual, and took him into custody,” they said.

Matthew Donald Adlam, 52, of Oshawa, is facing two counts each of indecent act and disobey court order. He was held for a bail hearing.

On Oct. 7, DRPS issued a public safety advisory regarding Aslam, who had recently been released after serving a sentence for multiple sexual assault-related offences.

They also shared at the time that he was residing in Oshawa, advising the public that he “poses a significant risk to the community.”

Investigators are asking anyone who may have further information involving the accused to contact Det. Dellipizzi, of the Central East Division Criminal Investigation Bureau, at 1-888-579-1520, ext. 2766, or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
