UGI Energy Services has commissioned a new liquefied natural gas facility in Cumberland County.

The new LNG storage and vaporization facility is located on Army Heritage Drive in Middlesex Township, near Carlisle.

“LNG facilities like Carlisle store natural gas in liquid form at extremely cold temperatures,” the company said in a news release. “During peak demand periods, typically the coldest winter days, the stored LNG is warmed and converted back into gas, then delivered into the pipeline system. This “peak shaving” capability allows UGIES to supplement pipeline supplies when customers need it most, ensuring reliable service when natural gas demand reaches its highest levels.”

The company said it worked with county officials to develop an infrastructure plan.

“The collaboration resulted in the integration of two previously disconnected water supply loops, significantly increasing water capacity and reliability for residents and businesses in the region,” the company said.

This is the company’s eighth LNG facility in Pennsylvania.

The company held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the site last month.

UGI Energy Services is a subsidiary of UGI Corporation, and markets natural gas, electricity, and liquid fuels to commercial, institutional and industrial customers.
