I can remember the day the news came out. I must have had a shitty week without laughing, but I couldn’t stop laughing all morning. Not at her, but at the absurdity of the situation. So I will always remember her with a smile.
This genuinely makes me sad. She was just a well meaning old lady who turned a forgotten painting rotting in a church into a worldwide sensation. No one would care about the original painting if it wasn’t for her.
This lady genuinely represented the Spanish spirit: do something with all your good intentions, make a chapuza, somehow the chapuza turns into a great, mold-breaking creation that brings joy to the world.
And i remember reading that she had plans to continue but took a break when she returned she was in this clusterfuck
Spanish people famously cannot paint faces. Look at Picasso or Salvador Dali. This lady actually did a really good job considering the disability she was living with.
Who is the second one?
Who?
I still have Beast Jesus as my profile picture on quite a few websites, including MS and some other work-related accounts. It’s staying that way.
So in order of how the painting works, (from left to right) we have the finished retouched work, the damaged original and the *”holy mother of God WTF did you do!”* that brought world-wide attention to that lost artwork and the local restorer.

she will drink the clouds with Caravaggio
Painter, you say?

Too brilliant for this century.
The most famous Spanish painter of the 21st century.
What a loss for Spanish culture.
Thoughts and prayers from this side of the border
RIP to this legendary painter
