A suspect has been arrested following an arson investigation into jacket burnings in Scarborough, police said Tuesday.

Police previously said a suspect approached someone waiting on a subway platform around 6:30 a.m. Sunday morning and attempted to set their jacket on fire. The victim was uninjured. The male suspect fled the scene, but police released images of him the same day.

At around the same time the following morning, police said, a suspect picked up a jacket that had been left on a chair at Scarborough Town Centre, lit it on fire and walked away.

The same suspect was later spotted outside one of the entrances to the mall, trying to light another person’s clothing on fire, police said.

No injuries were reported.

Investigators said Tuesday that 47-year-old Donald McFarlane has been charged with nine offences in connection with the incidents, including assault with a weapon, arson and four counts for failing to comply with probation.
