Every time Trump and his lieutenants woke up in 2025, they asked fossil fuels exactly how high they needed to jump that day. Here’s a graphic of just 180 of the hundreds of ways the US government attacked the climate this year.

  1. Gift link above from Bloomberg Opinion:

“Calling 2025 a disaster for the environment and renewable energy would be an insult to disasters. For the climate, 2025 was the equivalent of taking one of those rivers polluted enough to [stand on](https://www.reddit.com/r/nextfuckinglevel/comments/1pok8gs/bangladesh_takes_action_to_clean_its_polluted/), lighting it on fire and then driving a dodgy Amtrak train packed with scientists, puppies and nuclear waste into that river.

“Funny enough, [flaming rivers](https://clevelandhistorical.org/items/show/63) helped inspire the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency in 1970. Fifty-five years later, President Donald Trump’s EPA has all but [dropped “Environmental Protection”](https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/articles/2025-07-25/epa-s-climate-neglect-doesn-t-have-to-be-permanent) from its name, thus fulfilling yet another prophecy of the satirical news site [The Onion](https://theonion.com/epa-to-drop-e-p-from-name-1819567767/) and also the Heritage Foundation’s [Project 2025](https://www.law.berkeley.edu/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Index-and-Summary-Annotated-of-Project-2025-Report-Aug1424.pdf). The latter might sometimes read like bleak satire, but it’s actually a deadly serious playbook for dismantling the regulatory state to make life easier and more lucrative for polluters of all kinds, especially the fossil-fuel companies whose products are heating the planet.

“When running to get back into the White House last year, [Trump denied](https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/trump-denied-knowledge-of-project-2025-now-his-health-care-plans-follow-it/) any knowledge of Project 2025. You might want to sit down for this: He might not have been entirely truthful.”

  2. When Trump is sucking up to the fossil fuels biz, let’s remember that he’s also latching his lips to that industry’s richest tycoon–Vladimir Putin.

  3. I hope one day we have a scientific renesance and this will be viewed in the same way as we look at witch hunting in the 16th and 17th century.
