It’s going to be a long time before health care workers and those in related industries can be replaced by artificial intelligence (AI), according to some experts, and they’ll be among the safest jobs in the coming years.

Anu Madgavkar, a partner with McKinsey Global Institute, said last week that with increased use of robotics and AI, perhaps as many as one-third of American jobs will be in jeopardy.

But another one-third are considered “people-centric,” and will need workers who will be technically proficient with AI while also retaining the human skills of listening, empathy, professional care, and quick thinking.

That’s a skillset it’s hard to image AI matching in the foreseeable future, Success Factors podcast host Brenda Siri says.

While many of today’s workers admit growing concerns about the future of their careers as AI leaps ahead in power, the Corporate Connections LLC President says, “Nurses and doctors in general, I think they’re very safe because when it comes to medical, you need people with critical thinking skills and empathy.

“People should continue to pursue those medical degrees and have a safe career.”

The health care industry does produce a large number of adjacent workers, too, such as medical insurance specialists, representatives, and teacher among others.

And in a recent article, USA Today noted that similar or related services will also likely be safe from replacement by AI for many years, including jobs such as social assistance sector covers individual and family services, community food and housing, emergency and other relief services, vocational rehabilitation services, and child care services.
