Updated 7:30pm, Wednesday: A 72-year-old man has died after his motorcycle left the road and crashed into a fence near Campbell Town on New Year’s Eve.
The crash happened about 3:15pm on Wednesday on Macquarie Road.
Tasmania Police said the Kings Meadows man was riding a red Honda motorbike when it veered off the roadway.
He suffered critical injuries and died at the scene.
The cause of the crash is not yet known and will be investigated, police said. A report will also be prepared for the coroner.
Police thanked community members who stopped to provide first aid at the scene.

Earlier: A motorcyclist is in a serious condition following a crash in Campbell Town on New Year’s Eve.
Emergency services responded to the single-vehicle crash on Macquarie Road on Wednesday afternoon.
Police have closed a 7km stretch of the rural road to the north-west of the town while they work at the scene.
The closure affects Macquarie Road between West Street and Valleyfield Road.
