ZALIN (Qamishli), North and East Syria — Co-Chair of the Syriac Union Party in Syria and a member of the negotiation committee Sanharib Barsoum confirmed to Roz Press that extending the deadline for implementing the March 10 agreement is natural and expected. At the same time, he predicted that a consensus will likely be reached on integrating the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), of which the Syriac Military Council (MFS) is a key partner, into the Syrian Army as a first step toward implementing the remaining provisions of the agreement. Barsoum emphasized that both sides are committed to dialogue and peaceful solutions as alternatives to any other options.
Barsoum explained that there are both internal and external actors working to sabotage any existing agreements and attempting to incite military action against the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Region of North and East Syria (DAARNES). He stressed, however, that this scenario is unlikely for numerous reasons and considerations.
He also noted that implementing the agreement’s provisions would mark a genuine beginning of positive steps by the Syrian government toward building a “new Syria” that embraces all its citizens, regardless of their ethnic or religious backgrounds, and achieves real partnership, effectively putting an end to attempts to marginalize those who are different for the ruling power.
Barsoum concluded by emphasizing that the new year will be a year of peace for those who seek it, while it will also be a year of confronting any terrorist ideology that threatens the security and stability of Syria and its people. He wished well-being and peace for all Syrians and expressed hope for a truly better future.
