The support measures for veterans and future priorities for protecting their rights have been discussed at a meeting of Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu with representatives of war veterans’ associations from Moldova.
The PM appreciated the role of veterans in ensuring peace and freedom in Moldova: “The memory of the war on the Dniester is still alive; you are witnesses of a conflict unwanted by us, but also the best messengers of peace. The lessons you convey are essential for our national identity and the generations that grow,” he added.
The prime minister emphasized that the authorities would continue to support the war veterans and find resources to enhance social protection, including for their families. In the last four years, the monthly allowance for war veterans has increased from 500 to 1,770 lei, and for veterans with disabilities – from 575 to 2,254 lei.
“We know it’s not enough; we know there is a need for increases and continuous care. Our actions are proof that we want to correct a historical injustice towards those who fought for the country’s integrity, and we want to gradually increase their incomes,” the prime minister said.
The participants also discussed the degree of implementation of the Veterans Law, which came into force this year, as well as establishing new communication platforms, in order to have an efficient consultation mechanism and a prompt response to the needs of war veterans.
