3. The headline undersells the operation. Ukrainian MI didn’t just fake the guy’s death — they faked his death and in so doing drew out the Russian operatives running the assassination attempt, captured them, and took the reward money to spend it on Ukrainian national defense.

   All of which they claim they have succeeded at. And they don’t usually exaggerate or lie — when they have information to protect, historically they have kept silent rather than make stuff up.

   Now the question is: will the Kremlin follow normal procedure and attempt the exact same thing again?

   I’m sure that somewhere Budanov is smiling the largest smile of his career.
