Sweden coach Graham Potter insists he has no regrets over his time in charge of Chelsea.

Sacked in April 2023, Potter lasted only seven months at Chelsea.

Speaking before today’s departure of Enzo Maresca at Chelsea, Potter said on the Lundh podcast: “When it ends, there is always frustration and those feelings are normal.

“But now I just feel gratitude, really. I don’t think I would change that decision if I look back, because I think what I was presented with at the time was too much to turn down.”

As a coach, he became the most expensive signing in history – £21.5m – which also created a lot of external pressure.

“I don’t know. I think that’s what it is. Making the journey from the fourth division in Swedish football to the round of 16 in the Champions League, which is where we ended up with Chelsea, when you look back you think: ‘Wow, that was an amazing journey’. I’m of course grateful for that and for the support I’ve received.”

Although the collaboration did not last long, Potter has great respect for the club and the people around it.

“Sometimes you just have to say: ‘Okay, it probably wasn’t the right time’ or it just didn’t work out. But I have enormous respect for Chelsea and enormous respect for the people there. I think they’re going to be successful. The reason I went there is what’s going to happen, I think it was just that we couldn’t make it happen at that time,” added Potter.
