Europe was rocked as Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico rang in the New Year with a blistering broadside against the European Union and a move critics label openly pro-Russia. In a defiant address, the NATO leader declared an end to what he called blind obedience, accusing EU elites of cold calculation and moral bankruptcy over the Ukraine war. Fico said he was appalled by the ease with which European leaders discuss deaths, condemning what he described as the senseless killing of both Ukrainians and Russians. His remarks, delivered alongside a 2026 resolution that jolted EU allies, signalled a sharp break from the Western consensus and reignited tensions inside the NATO bloc.
