Germany’s CSU proposes mass deportations of Syrian and Afghan refugees and the return of Ukraine citizens fit for service, citing a new internal policy plan.

The Christian Social Union (CSU) faction in the Bundestag is preparing to push for a large-scale deportation drive in Germany. The initiative would involve the expulsion of refugees from Syria and Afghanistan, as well as the return to Ukraine of citizens deemed fit for military service. The Münchner Merkur reports this, citing a position paper drafted for a closed meeting of the CSU regional group scheduled for January 6–8 at the Zeon monastery in Bavaria.

Earlier, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated that Syrian refugees currently living in Germany should go back to their home country, arguing that the war in Syria has ended. He warned that those who refuse to return could face deportation.

According to the internal document referenced by the newspaper, the CSU is calling for an expansion of the planned «2026 deportation campaign.» The paper argues that removals should be carried out via regular flights, explicitly including destinations such as Syria and Afghanistan.

The party is also proposing cuts to social benefits for individuals subject to deportation, reducing payments to the constitutionally guaranteed minimum.

In the same context, CSU representatives are advocating the creation of specialized departure centers for refugees across Germany. Another proposal outlined in the document is the establishment of a separate terminal at Munich Airport dedicated exclusively to deportations.
