Protesters in Green Bay speak out against Trump administration’s attack on Venezuela

  • 2026-01-05

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – As Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro gets ready to make his first appearance in federal court on Monday, multiple protests are taking place around the country, including right here in northeast Wisconsin.

On the corner of North Webster Avenue and Main Street in Green Bay, roughly 25 protesters spoke out against the Trump administration’s actions in the South American country of Venezuela.

“I’m not out here to support Maduro. Donald Trump just completely ignored Congress to single-handedly order the abduction of a foreign head of state. One man should not have that kind of power,” says protester Ian Brost.

He believes that the current administration is acting illegally because it didn’t get Congressional approval for these strikes.

He’s hoping that leaders here can do something about that.

“They have basically abdicated their responsibility to be a check and balance on the executive branch. They are missing in action. They are just sitting by doing nothing. Donald Trump will not be around forever. Someday he will be gone, and they’ll have to answer for what they’ve done while he was here,” says Brost.

However, President Trump justifies the act, saying it was done to stop narco-terrorism.

Sam Kennedy with the Green Bay Anti-War Committee feels it’s for another reason.

“Venezuela is an oil-producing country. Venezuela is not an ally of the United States. America wants Venezuelan oil. America doesn’t like it when South American countries aren’t friendly to them,” says Kennedy.

Since the attacks on Saturday, there have been at least four protests throughout the state, including Appleton, Madison, and Milwaukee.
