Jan. 5 (UPI) — A bull broke through a fence during a rodeo event in New Zealand and the moment was caught on camera by a spectator.

A video posted to TikTok by @far_north_kaitaia captured the moment the bull broke through a weak spot in the fence Friday at the Far North Rodeo in Kaitaia.

Quinton King, president of the Far North Rodeo Club, said the 1,700-pound bull, named Thunder, did not act threatening toward the fleeing crowd.

“He just wanted to get away. He wasn’t running towards people as such, he was trying to run away. He ran up to the back, under a tree, to try to avoid people,” King told the NZ Herald.

Brendon Mikkelsen, a spokesman for New Zealand’s Ministry for Primary Industries, said the bull was safely recaptured without any injuries to humans or bovines. He said the bull had fled to a parking lot and was led into a nearby paddock by rodeo staff.

“We are not aware of it coming into contact with any member of the public at the rodeo,” he said.
