The Türkiye labor delegation met with Abbas Saber, chairman of Egypt’s General Union of Petroleum Workers, on Thursday in Hadaek al-Qubbah to discuss expanding cooperation, exchanging expertise and strengthening coordination on shared labor issues.
The Turkish delegation included the head of Petrol-Is Union and head of the delegation Suleyman Akyuz, Secretary for Organization and Education Niyazi Recep Kinoda, the union’s representative in Cankiri Khalil Ibrahim Ibrahim Tuygo, the union’s representative for Izmir Cem Turan and international relations coordinator Riza Kosi.

Egypt-Türkiye union ties gain momentum
Members of the Executive Council who attended included Ahmed el-Sarougy, Ashraf el-Mahrouky, Mohamed Yousry, Haitham Zad el-Din and Abdullah Mashhour.
Abbas Saber noted that cooperation with Türkiye labor unions represents a qualitative addition to the trajectory of international labor relations.
He said it would support the exchange of organizational expertise, the capacity-building of trade union cadres and the coordination of shared positions on issues such as decent work, occupational safety and health, and job stability.

Petroleum union expands international cooperation
Sarougy said the meeting reflects the union’s strategic direction to expand international labor cooperation.
He said the approach aims to develop trade union performance, enhance cadre efficiency, exchange organizational expertise, and support shared labor issues in regional and international forums.
Sarougy explained that the union seeks to build labor partnerships based on coordination and integration, strengthening the trade union movement in confronting the fast-paced challenges imposed by global economic shifts in a way that serves workers’ interests and achieves social stability.

Akyuz calls visit a step toward labor partnership
For his part, Suleyman Akyuz, head of the delegation of Türkiye’s Petroleum, Chemicals and Rubber Workers’ Union, said his visit to the headquarters of the General Union of Petroleum Workers marks an important step toward building an effective labor partnership with Egypt’s trade union movement.
He praised the union’s pivotal role in defending workers’ rights, reinforcing social stability, and advancing institutional trade union work.
Akyuz added that the Turkish union looks forward to strengthening joint cooperation with Egypt’s General Union of Petroleum Workers through exchanging expertise and visits, and by implementing joint training and educational programs, helping prepare trade union cadres capable of addressing shared challenges and reinforcing the values of international labor solidarity.
This meeting comes as part of the General Union of Petroleum Workers’ strategy to entrench the international dimension of trade union work and strengthen cross-border labor partnerships in a way that serves workers’ interests and supports social and economic stability.
