South Africa batter Rassie van der Dussen has registered himself for the upcoming EUT20 Belgium league.
Rassie van der Dussen first high-profile name to register for EUT20 Belgium
A week after missing out on South Africa’s squad for the T20 World Cup, Van der Dussen has registered for the EUT20 Belgium league, which is set to have its inaugural season in 2026. He is the first high-profile name to have registered for the European T20 league, which has appointed Eoin Morgan as its ambassador.
The league was launched in October 2025, and is expected to hold its first season in May-June 2026, with six participating teams: one each from the cities of Antwerp, Bruges, Leuven, Liege, Ghent and Brussels.
The batter is currently representing MI Cape Town, who bought him back at the mega auction last year after initially releasing him, in the ongoing SA20 season. He is currently the seventh-highest run-scorer with 138 runs in five innings at a strike-rate of 133.98, the lowest strike-rate among the top 10 run-scorers so far.
Van der Dussen was also among the runs in the 2025/26 CSA T20 Challenge, finishing the season as the second-highest run-getter with 275 runs in six innings at a strike-rate of 143.97. Only Matthew de Villiers (394) scored more than him, but played three more games.
He last played international cricket for South Africa in August 2025, featuring in two of the three T20Is on the team’s white-ball tour of Australia. His last ODI appearance came during the 2025 Champions Trophy, while he hasn’t played Test cricket for the Proteas since 2022.
Notably, van der Dussen had climbed to a career-best ODI batting ranking of second on the back of a stellar 2022. He had scored 476 runs in nine matches in the calendar year at 79.33 and a strike rate of 100.42, with two hundreds and as many fifties.
