ÖBB is expanding Rail Cargo Group’s European freight network with additional TransFER services between Austria, Germany, the Netherlands and Romania.

The new services will see more TransFER connections for single wagonloads and containers operating to fixed timetables between Duisburg in Germany and Rotterdam in the Netherlands, as well as between Salzburg in Austria and Offenbach in Germany. The company is also expanding intermodal services with new routes to Romania.

The TransFER connections are similar to passenger trains, with fixed timetables and predefined stops. They allow customers to book conventional freight wagons or intermodal units such as containers or swap bodies; there are currently over 60 TransFER connections between economic centres in Europe and Asia. They can also provide first and last-mile services, transhipment, warehousing, and facilitate professional customs clearance.

The new TransFER service between Duisburg and Rotterdam will initially operate three round-trips per week. It will provide a direct link between the Rheinkamp logistics hub near Duisburg and the Port of Rotterdam’s terminals at Waalhaven, Europoort, Botlek, Pernis, and Maasvlakte. Duisburg provides convenient rail connections to other destinations in western, northern, central and south-eastern Europe.

The new Salzburg to Offenbach TransFER service runs twice a week non-stop between Austria and Germany, with Offenbach being conveniently situated as an important logistics and industrial location in the Rhine-Main area near Frankfurt am Main.

The previous TransFER service between Genk and Curtici now operates between Liège and Curtici, with seven round-trips each week; Liège has good connections to the North Sea ports of Rotterdam, Antwerp, and Zeebrugge.

A new thrice-weekly TransFER service has been established between Duisburg and Curtici, enabling traffic to Curtici to be served from both Liège and Duisburg.

ÖBB Rail Cargo Group (RCG) recently expanded its network with a new TransFER freight service between Salzburg in Austria and Augsburg in Germany, and a new service between Belgrade and Rijeka that links the Serbian rail network to the Adriatic.

“The further development of our TransFER connections shows how consistently we align our services with the needs of our customers. With new direct and reliable connections, we are improving access to key logistics hubs and creating attractive conditions for the switch to rail.”
