With the Kansas City Chiefs enduring a disastrous season and missing the playoffs for the first time since 2014, Travis Kelce suddenly has time to think about life beyond football — and Croatia is firmly on his radar, reports The US Sun.
The three-time Super Bowl winner recently discovered he has Croatian roots on his mother Donna’s side, after learning her grandmother and mother both came from Croat families. A source says Kelce and his brother Jason have been “incredibly excited and eager to dig deeper into that part of their heritage,” with plans now forming for a trip to Europe.
Kelce is keen to visit Croatia with his global superstar fiancée Taylor Swift, with the insider revealing the couple have been “talking about it a lot.” The source added: “Taylor already loves that part of the world, having visited before, and Travis is excited to take her there as part of this journey.”
But this isn’t just about heritage. Kelce is also understood to be exploring real-estate opportunities, with his eye on a $5 million property in the Balkans and plans to establish a home base in Croatia before expanding a European property portfolio. His mother Donna is reportedly thrilled, as Kelce hopes to connect with relatives, visit ancestral towns and villages, and gather family history.
“He jokes that he feels like a historian,” the source said, calling the search “one of the most important research projects of his young life.” Swift is said to be fully supportive, believing it’s vital they understand each other’s family stories before marriage — which is expected later this year.
The U.S. Sun understands Kelce has played his final NFL game, although no official retirement announcement has yet been made.
