As the deportation of migrants continues, 2,459 individuals returned to Afghanistan on Saturday, Jan. 10, the Taliban-run High Commission for Migrant Affairs said on Sunday.

The commission said another 28 individuals were deported from Iran on the same day, with most of the returns carried out forcibly.

According to the statement, the migrants entered Afghanistan through the Torkham, Spin Boldak, Pul-e-Abrisham and Islam Qala border crossings.

Pakistan had deported 2,618 migrants the previous day, both forcibly and voluntarily, the commission said.

Afghanistan has seen a sharp rise in deportations from neighbouring countries, particularly Pakistan, over the past two years.

The United Nations has said that about 2.6 million migrants returned to Afghanistan in 2025, warning that large-scale returns are placing severe strain on the country’s limited resources and humanitarian response capacity.
