KPWB is looking for 12 amazing volunteers to help with a brand-new community recycling project at the Manassas Christmas Parade THIS SATURDAY, Dec. 6.Â
One of the most magical holiday traditions is Santa’s arrival at the end of local Christmas parades. The floats, bands, and festive displays set the stage for the season and bring joy to children and adults alike. But after watching several parades last year, one question kept coming up:
What happens to all those decorations afterward?
Are they really used once and then tossed away?
This year, KPWB us determined to make a positive change.
At the parade discharge lot (9319 Mosby Street), volunteers will help floats safely disassemble their decorations, then sort and repurpose as many materials as possible. Many families can’t afford their own holiday decorations—and many organizations would love to reuse these items rather than buy new ones. Together, we can save money, reduce waste, and brighten homes and community spaces all at once!
What to Expect
Meet-up: 9 a.m. at the discharge lot
Parade start: 10 a.m.
Estimated end time: between 2 and 3 p.m. (flexible!)
Come for the whole time or whatever you can—every bit helps
Tools, safety gear, and plenty of holiday cheer will be provided
Volunteers will be disassembling floats and sorting decorations into categories for reuse
