MORRIS COUNTY, Texas (KETK) — CenterPoint Energy shut down gas service to 1000 customers in Morris County due to a major gas line break on Monday.

A gas leak will affect the Omaha, Naples and Cookville CenterPoint Energy service area for the next few days, the Morris County Judge announced on Monday. CenterPoint Energy said they expect approximately 1000 customers to be affected by the outage which was caused by a rupture on a third-party gas line.

“We understand this outage comes at a time when temperatures are cold, and we know how important natural gas service is for heating your home,” CenterPoint said. “Our crews are actively coordinating with the pipeline operator and working diligently to restore service safely and as quickly as possible. Safety remains our top priority, and we appreciate your patience and understanding during this process.”

Pewitt CISD said that classes at all of their campuses will be closed on Tuesday due to the leak. CenterPoint said they will provide updates on when service will be restored.

Morris County encourages anyone who needs assistance or knows someone who needs assistance due to the cold to contact the Morris County Sheriff’s Office through the non-emergency number at 903-645-2232.
