Japan is likely to stay the course on fighting climate change despite the United States’ recent decision to exit from international climate organizations, experts say.

U.S. President Donald Trump shocked the world last week by ordering the government to withdraw from 66 international entities, including the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, a top-level scientific body that informs governments on climate policies.

The 198-member strong UNFCCC, set up in 1992, aims to slow the progression of the climate crisis. The U.S. will be the only nation ever to leave the framework.
