BOZEMAN, Mont. — As more Montanans shift to remote and hybrid work, new co-working spaces like “Kiln” are emerging to meet the demand for flexible work environments.

Within Co-working spaces like Kiln, the atmosphere of tapping laptops and casual conversations is steadily replacing the traditional “clock-in, clock-out” office routine.

With a growing number of Montanans working remotely or in hybrid setups, spaces like Kiln are becoming essential.

Maxine Martin, Member Experience Manager at Kiln, said, “Anytime a member walks through the door, they’re here to focus on work, because we do a lot of the heavy lifting in terms of taking care of everything else. So, they can turn off their brain when it comes to operating their day to day life, like they would if they’re working from home.”

However, Kiln is more than just another business in Bozeman.

It represents a significant shift in how work is conducted within the state.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor and Statistics, of the over 30,000 hours worked across the country in either a remote or hybrid model, Montana’s workers make up 16% of that total.

The members within this co-working space are also aware of the changing work culture that Kiln fosters.

Callie Kazakoff, owner of Big Sky Tutoring and Kiln member, said, “Pretty much everybody I know has either remote or hybrid work, so I think places like this are going to get only more popular and become more valuable for the community.”

Paul Whitaker, CEO of Pro-Transfers and Kiln member, added, “I get more work done in a day than I used to get done in, you know, three to four days or an entire week, just because I can be focused.”

Other areas in Montana are adopting a similar co-working approach to the one that has been established in Bozeman.

In Missoula, spaces like Bike and Type and the C-3 Work Lounge embrace remote or hybrid work styles similar to the one that Kiln offers.

Kiln officially opened its doors in November, further expanding its reach across eight states.

In 2026, Kiln plans to further that expansion, opening locations in Texas, Oregon, Idaho and Nevada.
